Saving the Day: A Repair for a 2012 Jeep Compass

Wheel bearings gone bad! 2012 Jeep Compass 150k miles.

Our latest adventure at Kyle's Auto Repair began with a distressed call about a 2012 Jeep Compass Latitude. The customer reported alarming grinding noises and a non-responsive brake system. After advising them not to drive further, we quickly scheduled an inspection.

Within a day, the Jeep was up in our shop. Before removing a tire, we noticed the a tire wobbling alarmingly – a clear sign of a severely damaged wheel bearing. After a discussion with the customer they opted to replace this component, as the car was undrivable and the video we sent them of the problem was “mind blowing”. At Kyle's Auto Repair, we prioritize customer benefit over maximizing our labor profits. We installed a new hub assembly, providing our client with a completely new component for peace of mind and ability to drive safely again.

As we delved into the brake system, we encountered a shockingly neglected brake fluid – black/green in color with clumps of gooey substance oozing out of the bleeder valves from each caliper. Despite no leaks from the calipers’ pistons, the condition of the fluid was critical. Flushing and bleeding the system restored the brake pedal's functionality, highlighting the importance of regular maintenance, especially for a vehicle with 150k miles.

The surprises didn’t end there. We discovered a missing brake pad, later found wedged between the dust shield and the rotor, causing constant friction. This led us to recommend new pads and rotors for the rear. Efficiently addressing this while the car was already disassembled saved the customer some labor costs.

Our comprehensive inspection revealed further issues: oil leaks, worn control arm bushings, and tie rod ends needing attention. We provided the customer with a detailed action plan and estimate for these repairs.

The customer was thrilled with our service, appreciating our thorough approach and transparent communication. They left us a glowing five-star review on Google, a testament to our commitment to quality and honesty. Click here for our google reviews
